Hairstyles for Women Over 50

May 14, 2014 by admin

Aloha from Hawaii.

Check out the hairstyles of celebrities who are 50 and over.  There are 100 images.  Got to say that I did not know that Demi Moore and Tatum O’Neal are over 50.  Say WHAT?  Geez, I remember when Ms. Moore acted with her father, Ryan O’Neal, in “Paper Moon.”  And Iman, WOW…providing that they used a recent photo, she is still absolutely stunning.  Cheryl Tiegs just looks tired.  Got to also say that Christie Brinkley still looks great for an up-town girl, not to mention, okay, let’s mention, Lady O.

The hairstyles seem to favor medium, shoulder-length hair with bangs brushed to the side.  Some are long bangs; some are a bit shorter.

But none, except for Ms. Helen Mirren who has an all-over silver do, none have any gray hair….showing, that is.

Seems to me that looking younger involves an absolute must “cover-the-gray” dye job.  Big whup!  I knew that!

Anyhoo, check out this website for some glamorous, and some not so glamorous, women over 50 for your own look.

The Top Anti-aging Products $25

April 30, 2014 by admin

Allure the Beauty Expert

By                            Brooke Le Poer Trench

Think you can’t put a price on looking younger? Well, we did—and it’s $25. We challenged dermatologists to find great products that don’t cost even one cent over that amount.

“It has the same type of peptide for  collagen building as far more expensive products, plus niacinamide and panthenol,” says dermatologist Heidi Waldorf

Besides offering glowing coverage and a featherweight texture, “this multitasking cream doubles as a daily sunscreen and dark-spot fader, too,” says Francesca Fusco, an assistant clinical professor of dermatology at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City.

These chilly little crescents have “cornflower to soothe puffiness and soften, arnica to help drain, and chamomile, which is an  anti-inflammatory,” says Jeannette Graf, an assistant clinical professor of dermatology at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City.

“It has just the right balance of shea butter and castor oil to  seal in moisture, as well as grape-seed polyphenols to reduce irritation and protect from free-radical damage,” says Waldorf.

Dermatologist Arielle Kauvar turned us on to this serum. It brightens with vitamins C and B3, plus light-reflecting particles.

A stellar find from the natural aisle, “this antioxidant serum has magnesium ascorbic phosphate, which is one of the most stable forms of vitamin C,” says Graf.

This repeat Best of Beauty winner is a one-step wonder: Each glycolic-acid-soaked disc exfoliates gently, neutralizes itself, and leaves skin radiant.

“Polysaccharides help the retinol and hyaluronic acid in the formula penetrate quickly, so you know the active ingredients are getting in,” says Graf.

Sheet masks have traditionally been very high-end. But these pack a hefty dose of brightening vitamin C and hydrating glycerin, and cost less than $3 a pop.

“This is the best product I’ve found to smooth hands,” says Waldorf. “Water beads when you wash your hands with it on, so you can really tell that it lasts.”

“Dark Spot Corrector Buyer’s Guide” on

March 25, 2014 by admin

Aloha from Hawaii.

Found this article on the “Dark Spot Corrector Buyer’s Guide” about dark spot correctors, ranking, and alternatives.  HURRAY!  I found it very informative!

3 Dark Spot Correctors                     That Actually Work?

By, Karen Weathers Senior Editor                             Consumers Guides Beauty Advice

With a good dark spot corrector, many types of skin blemishes can  become a thing of the past.

A quality dark spot corrector can clear up dark spots and age spots  in a few weeks, and other smaller blemishes (such as spots from acne) can be  cleared up in a matter of days.

But which product do you use?

Every  product claims to offer the best  results for the money, but as we both know, product claims can be far from the  truth – and on top of that, some of them can be downright dangerous.

So how do you know which one to use? This is where we come  in. We looked at all the best dark spot correctors on the market and analyzed each  of them to find out which one uses the most effective ingredients, and no  dangerous ingredients and of course…which one works best.

Melanin Dark Spots
Dark spots are a form of hyper-pigmentation. It’s a discoloration of the skin due to overproduction of melanin, the substance which causes our skin to tan after sun exposure. As we age, melanocytes, which deposit melanin in our skin cells work less effectively. Melanin builds up in certain areas and causes dark spots.

First – The Ingredients That Work

For a dark spot corrector to be effective, is has to use the  right ingredients. Many correctors claim to be using the best, but be  careful- many do not use the right amounts of ingredients to really get  results. Here’s the proven ingredients you need to look for:

  • Alpha Arbutin: a compound derived from organic materials,  Alpha Arbutin blocks the effects of melanin on the skin, removing dark spots quickly and safely
  • Resveratrol: another powerful melanin blocker, this  has been clinically shown to reduce melanin production by 50%
  • Sepicalm-S: this compound is one of the most powerful anti-pigment and anti-inflammatory agents on the market- perfect for reducing acne scarring

Dangerous Ingredients to watch out for:

Sadly, many dark spot correctors still use ingredients proven  dangerous. Using a product with these ingredients can have worse  effects than simply not seeing results. These can cause serious damage to your  health:

  • Hydroquinone: this carcinogenic chemical is actually banned  in most countries- except the US! Why? Besides increasing skin sensitivity, it  has been linked to tumor growth! This is not something you want to be rubbing  into your skin.
  • Mercury: Believe it or not, mercury is still used in some  skin products. The reason – it’s cheap. Be very careful of this as it is one  of the most harmful things you can put near your body. Mercury can destroy your  kidneys and nervous system. Mercury is used more often the you think, so  always, ALWAYS read the label before buying!

Which Products work best?

Which products are most effective while still using safe ingredients?

Out of everything we looked at, sadly only a few made the  cut. The majority of products simply don’t offer the results they should and  many of them still use dangerous ingredients.

However there ARE a few that really do stand out. A couple of  the products we looked at did everything right with their formulas. They use  all the best ingredients, those which are proven in clinical trials to remove all kinds of skin  blemishes. These are all safe to use… and got amazing reviews from all their users.

Below are our top products in the dark spot corrector category.  If you are looking for a product to clear up dark spots, age spots, or acne  blemishes, these are the ones to use.

# 2 Second Choice: Obagi Nu-Derm Clear Fx

The consensus second place pick was Obagi Nu-Derm Clear Fx, which came closest to replicating the results of City Cosmetics Illuminating Dark Spot Corrector.

However, this product uses some potentially dangerous ingredients, and the price tag might scare some consumers away, which kept this product from the top tier of dark spot correctors.

#3 Third Choice: Shiseido White Lucent Intensive Spot Targeting Serum

Rounding out the top three was Shiseido White Lucent Intensive Spot Targeting Serum. This was an excellent product in many respects, but just didn’t make a strong enough impact on skin tone and luminance.

Additionally, it was very pricey, which is surprising given that it didn’t have any of the compounds that traditionally drive up the price of dark spot correctors.

BioGeniste and Wrinkle Rewind Final Thoughts

March 8, 2014 by admin

Aloha from Hawaii.

Kung Hee Fat Choy!  Happy New Year!  The Chinese new year began on 31 January, 2014, and the Year of the Horse began on February 4, 2014.  The year 2014 is the Year of the Green or Wooden Horse.  See my other website for further info.

I know that a lot of you are still dealing with a super storm of cold and nasty weather.  Praying that all of you and your families are warm and safe.  I know I said it in my last posting, but we have fantastic weather here in Hawaii……balmy 78 degrees with gentle tradewinds and almost clear blue skies.  Okay, so it’s been a bit drizzly today.  But a heck of a lot better than the dregs of a looooong snow and winter.  And, as I also said before, although I desperately miss the four seasons, we have a saying here, “Lucky you live Hawaii”.  Amen.

In my last post, I decided that using BioGeniste is okay.  Not great, but okay for the product price and results.  It did not declare that I would look ten years younger, but it did the job of keeping my skin soft and dehydrated.  I was looking for the combination of BioGeniste and Wrinkle Rewind to perhaps tighten my facial skin a bit; but so far, not as much as I had hoped.

I definitely think that BioGeniste is a better product than Wrinkle Rewind on its own.  Together, it was supposed to be a “secret” of the stars.  As far as I’m concerned, this “secret” is just hype.  However, I still can’t say that it was a product endorsing scam.

Do I look younger?  No, can’t say that I do.

Would I have tried it otherwise?  No, can’t say that I would have.

Am I satisfied with the results?  Hmmm, that’s a tougher question that it sounds.

I guess it would depend upon your expectations and goals.  I’m talking “real” expectations and goals.  Of course you’re not going to turn to the clock back 10 years.  Get real!  A more “real” expectation would be, perhaps, your skin having a softer feel, texture is smooth, and feels fresh.  If that’s what you are expecting, then BioGeniste works.

So, that’s my take on this “secret”.

Take care.

My Review of Wrinkle Rewind and BioGeniste

January 5, 2014 by admin

Aloha from Hawaii.

Hou`oli Makahiki Ho`u!  Happy New Year!

Hope you all had a great and very safe holiday season.

I know that a lot of you are dealing with a super storm of cold and nasty weather.  Praying that all of you and your families are warm and safe.  We have fantastic weather here in Hawaii……balmy 78 degrees with gentle tradewinds and clear blue skies.  Although I desperately miss the four seasons, we have a saying here, “Lucky you live Hawaii”.  Amen.

President Obama and the first family just left the islands last night after a 2-week vacation.  They’re going to a very frigid East Coast; bet they all wish they were back in the President’s home state.

Okay, I received the “free” Wrinkle Rewind and BioGeniste, paying only shipping and handling charges.  Of course, in fine print that they hope you won’t read, after a 14-day “trial period”, you are charged, surprise, surprise, the full retail amount of the products.  Pretty sneaky, and expensive if you’re not anticipating the charges.

I have tried the products for the past three weeks and can say that I really haven’t seen that much difference in appearance.  Okay, I admit that I don’t have any wrinkles at age 60, but I was hoping that the products would even out my skin tone a little, perhaps lift my eyelids a bit, and tighten up my neck.

My skin is dewy and does have a nice texture….very soft.  I do not see any noticeable difference in the lifting and tightening aspect, but I’m telling myself that I need to give the product a chance by using the entire bottle before I say anything further.  Of course, no where does it say how long you need to use the product to see any significant results.

The products themselves are average in portion; not skimpy at all.  The Wrinkle Rewind and BioGeniste comes in a 1.0 oz. jar and bottle, respectively, which is pretty average.  A little goes a long way, so after three weeks, I still have half of the jar and bottle left.  Not bad.

High expectations are a wishing-for-a-miracle downfall, especially in the extremely competitive beauty product market.  We are all suckered into the latest and greatest with the added hopeful benefit that if the celebrities use it, then it must really work.  We don’t take into account that everyone is different from skin color, tone, diet, lifestyle, and environment.

I have a drawer full of products that I have tried and discarded as not “good”.  I guess I keep them in case I run out of something and they’re there as a possible back-up.  In the same drawer is tons of make-up that are in the drawer for the same purpose.  I think I have just about every make-up line from L’Oreal to Chanel, from Almay to Estee Lauder, from Revlon to Shiseido, from CoverGirl to Clinique; you name it, I think I’ve got it.  Hundreds and hundreds of dollars of make-up I just can’t make myself throw away….I just might need them tomorrow.

Take care, everyone!

Ellen DeGeneres Backstage Skincare Secret – Exposed

December 3, 2013 by admin

Aloha from Hawaii.

Okay, ladies, hold onto your hats for this revelation… is freakin’ amazing!  Check out this headline on the internet:

“Ellen’s Backstage Skincare Secret – Her Anti-Aging Trick Finally Exposed!”

Ms. Ellen DeGeneres is a spokesperson for CoverGirl and “Simply Ageless” makeup lines; but guess what?  According to this article, that’s not what she’s using to keep her youthful look at age 55.  You have to see her “before” and “after” pictures — Wow!

Dr. Oz calls it “The Miracle Anti-aging breakthrough – because it works!”

Ms. Brenda Davis, a 53-year old mother of three from California didn’t have the money to experiment on every celebrity-endorsed anti-aging “miracle” out there.  So, of course, any medical procedures or facelifts were so totally out of the question.

Ms. Davis’ solution.

After a year of intense research and social networking with other women about their own skin care regimen, she eventually learned of two products that were yielding real results and helping women look younger:  Wrinkle Rewind and Biogeniste.

Two separate products that she accidentally combined!  Hallejuah!

Soon after word got out about her results, she was featured on “The Doctor Oz Show”.

In the article you will read how it all works and what the key ingredients are.  Celebrities as Cindy Crawford, Jennifer Aniston, and Kelly Ripa have all admitted using the products to maintain the glow of youth.

And guess what?  The website actually allows you to send for free samples of both products for only 14 days; just pay shipping and handling.

I just sent for my free samples; I anticipate that it should arrive in about 10 days.  I can’t wait to get them.  Will post any testimonials.

Happy Holidays!

Mele Kalikimaka e Hau`oli Makahiki Ho`u!

Aloha from Hawaii!

November 19, 2013 by admin

My name is Arlene, and thank you so very much for choosing to stop by my site.

Like everyone else on the planet, whenever I hear, on whatever media, what some famous people are doing to combat the aging process, I’m all ears (with suitable earrings, of course).  I happened on an Entertainment Tonight segment about what Jennifer Anniston, Oprah Winfrey, Heidi Klum, Gwenyth Paltrow, and Kourtney Kardashian, are doing to capture the fountain of youth in a bottle.

Say what?  Secrets of the stars exposed?

Actually, nothing earth shattering or new here.  According to beauty nutritionist, Paula Simpson, often referred to, in the Entertainment Tonight segment, as the “Hollywood Pill Doctor”, the stars are consuming natural supplements to fend off aging and maintaining healthy skin.  Taking concentrated nutrients in a pill form is going to help prevent premature skin aging.  Green tea, seaweed, and probiotics are the new pill craze.

Well, big whoop!

Apparently it’s all about polyphenols, or green tea supplements, for Ms. Anniston, to help keep her skin healthy, and reduce redness and irritation from sun exposure.  For Ms. Winfrey, it’s all about acai berries supplements to maintain her fantastic complexion.  When Heidi Klum and Gwenyth Paltrow want to fight off wrinkles, Ms. Simpson claims they go for Astaxanthins, which come from salmon, shellfish, and seaweed.  They would take these pills to help protect the skin from environmental pollutants that can cause premature aging.  For a slimmer tummy, probiotic supplements will do the trick for Kourthey Kardashian.

Nothing really new, right?  Of course, it goes without saying that a sensible diet, etc., will help.  But, man, how I wish it could go without saying.  (Big sighs; I mean really BIG sighs.)

I’m not saying how old I am, so stop with the guessing; but, it got me thinking about what I could be and should be considering as the years go by.  I wish it would go by slower, but that’s a whole other story.

I’ve put together a few products I thought we might consider towards our own efforts to wage the war against the signs of aging.  The supplements I’ve chosen are extremely affordable and readily available.  I’m afraid that I don’t the deep pocketbook these illustrious ladies have, so I won’t be taking them by the handfuls……and don’t you either!  Be extremely vigilant in reading the instructions and abide by them….PLEASE.

Once again, thank you so very much for stopping by my site.  I wish you the very best of luck and love in all your endeavors!

Best regards,
